Nook FAQs

  • Well it depends. There are two key areas to consider:

    1) How close to a boundary is the building sited? Including your roof, you may build up to 4m in height for a gable roof or 3m for all other designs. However, when building within 2m of a boundary, the total height of your garden room, including the roof, is limited to 2.5m without planning permission. There are certain circumstances where you can exceed this restricted height such as where you lower the current height of your garden you can incorporate this to the build height but it is always best to check with the local planning officer before proceeding.

    2) Do you want to install waste services. Any waste services required for a sink, shower or toilet will need planning permission.

    Fortunately we are experienced in working with local planning and can provide planning application services if required.

  • We have done this before for other clients. We would need to inspect the building to ensure that it can be converted. If the structure is sound and fit for purpose we can do a complete strip out and refit.

  • We can certainly build them so that they can be lived in. All our buildings are subject to modern construction standards and safety regulations.

  • Yes they can! We build our rooms to modern building standards. This ensures that your room is cozy in the winter and cool in the summer. They are also weather tight. We also ensure that the materials used are suitable for coastal areas where the environment has a higher salt level content.

  • We certainly can! Our team provide expertise and guidance in purchase, installation and setup of a suitable Wi-Fi system not just for your Nook but also for your entire outdoor space.

  • We use a range of foundations. Depending on your requirements, we can install concrete pads, concrete piers, ground screws or foundation plinths. Each has its pros and cons. We will survey the ground to ensure we use the correct system for you.

    We can also build on a current foundation if available and suitable.

  • We don’t believe in limiting what you can and cannot have in your room. We can design in speaker systems, skylights, wifi capabilities, specialist lighting and bathroom and kitchen facilities. The only caveat we have is that what ever we build, it meets planning guidelines and modern safety and construction standards.

  • No, we can partition your room to your specification. We have incorporated sheds, bathrooms and kitchens given the space available.

  • The answer is it depends. As you are in control of the design of your room you can choose the type of finish you like.

    Modern finishes such as cement board or PVC need minimum maintenance. Natural wood finishes require a coat of preservative oil once every 1 to 2 years.

  • We certainly can incorporate our Nooks onto current buildings subject to necessary planning and construction laws.
